Mount Prospect Academy is an approved private Special Education school educating students in grades 5 through 12. We specialize in supporting the education and personal growth of students who have had trouble finding success academically and/or behaviorally, in a more traditional academic setting. MPA provides student choice and learning opportunities through traditional and experiential classrooms across multiple spacious campuses offering courses in the general curriculum and a variety of experiential classes. Traditional courses are offered to students through in class instruction, supported web-based instruction, and extended learning opportunities. Our traditional classrooms provide small class sizes with a supportive faculty to student ratio. Students participate daily in hands on learning and real-world experiential opportunities through culinary arts, automotive technology, wood technology, science, art, physical fitness, adventure English, animal science, and engaging community service activities.
These learning environments are supported by certified teachers who are well versed in self-directed studies and who are invested in ensuring that students acquire the confidence to become advocates for their education. MPA Internships and School To Work experiences provides self-directed learning, meaningful adaptive skills and demonstrated proficiency in both academic and skill- based applications to insure success in the workplace as well in advancing educational opportunities for our students. At the end of an internship, students have the relevant experience necessary to help them decide if they’re interested in pursuing a career in the field of their internship. Mount Prospect Academy’s educational model is dedicated to the personal growth and career skill development of our students who face unique challenges in their adaptation to adulthood and support them in achieving meaningful careers and/or college orientation.
Our teachers provide competency-based personalized instruction that balances academic skills and concepts with experiential project-based learning that fits with each student’s aspirations and ambitions. MPA Special Education Case Managers offer academic support services for individualized learning, and students have full access to the general education curriculum, as outlined in the New Hampshire curriculum standards. Each student, their family, and sending district are considered key stakeholders in all educational planning efforts. Our students are enrolled in the appropriate academic classes as defined by their sending school district’s graduation requirements and Mount Prospect Academy’s recommendations. MPA also awards graduates with a high school diploma that meets the New Hampshire state minimum standards.
