Mount Prospect Academy’s Enhanced Residential Treatment Program (ERT) is designed for students who struggle to regulate their own behavior and require significant supports within the residential, academic and community settings. The ERT program maintains an enhanced faculty-to-student ratio of 1:2, which provides the additional assistance needed to increase students’ skill building and competency development.
ERT is composed of four separate communities that accommodates up to 20 students in total. The communities are located at MPA at Campton, in Campton, N.H.
One of the ERT program’s main goals is helping students develop a more positive self-identity. This will be accomplished through relationship and trust building, group processing, restorative justice work, promoting students’ pro-social behavior, and maintaining an environment that is trauma-informed and focused on personal and professional development.
The ERT program is designed for students who need more intensive care than a traditional residential setting can provide, but less supervision than a Sub-Acute or locked residential facility. ERT serves as an option for youth who may have previously been considered for SYSC detention or commitment. ERT places an emphasis on structure, routines and one on one support during times of need.
MPA works closely with each youth’s sending school district to support basic skills development, course credit recovery, and advancement toward the student’s graduation requirements. Students who cannot safely engage in activities away from the ERT residential facility will participate in their academic programming on-site in the Campton Classroom or with internship opportunities.
Academic support faculty and internship advisers are provided by the MPA day school. A strong internship component is embedded within the program, as many of our students benefit from hands-on learning and healthy energy release. On-site internship options include greenhouse/horticulture, culinary arts, maintenance, and building trades. Students who are safe to attend off-site internship programming will have access to courses in: automobile repair, experiential science (outdoor biology, physics, and physical sciences adventure activities), woodworking, and animal-assisted therapies.
A masters level Milieu Clinician (MC) takes a lead role for students by providing clinical support and case oversight. The clinician works with MPA academic and residential faculty to develop a plan for implementing safe and productive coping skills, should the student escalate and require additional support.
Students are also assigned a Permanency Coordinator (PC), who ensures that students and their families are adequately connected to long-term community supports and supports strengthening family systems. The PC is the main communication facilitator between treatment team members, and he or she works in conjunction with the student’s team to provide a variety of case management and clinical services. Our clinical services incorporate evidence-based practices which include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Risk-need-responsivity principles.
